WHAT IS STRIVE?
Strive for College is a new approach to correcting the inequalities of college access. Strive recruits undergraduate student mentors from local universities to guide low-income high school students through the process of applying to, enrolling in and paying for four-year colleges and universities. We are a national organization with chapters across the country.

Why you are in Strive: My passion is politics, education, and entrepreneurial work.  I have started a couple of tutroring programs myself but I felt that I could do more and help more people through Strive than through my own smaller programs.  Strive is an amazing program and organization that I am convinced changes lives.

Chapter Director Name: Della Taylor

Chapter/ College: Scripps College

Grad Year: 2011

Major: Anthropology

Future Aspirations: I would really like to attend culinary school in a few years and expand my knowledge and love for food and culture. In the mean time I hope to find a job in which I can give back to my community and peers and enable those less fortunate or in need with the opportunities and motivation to follow their dreams.

Why I am in Strive: Having benefited from and appreciated all of the privileges and learning experiences I have encountered in my academic life, particularly in college, I feel very strongly that everyone should have the chance to grow and learn in an intellectual and inspiring environment. Strive shares in these values and is an inspiring program that reaches out to high school students who may not be aware of their academic and personal potential which I am excited and eager about participating.

My favorite things about Strive:
I admire Strive's ambition to seek out students who may not initially stand out on a standard academic scale and encourage them to pursue a college career. I also think having college student mentors for high school students is especially effective and enables a personal relationship between Strive mentors and high school students that is not only productive but also builds strong, positive connections between peers.
