WHAT IS STRIVE?
Strive for College is a new approach to correcting the inequalities of college access. Strive recruits undergraduate student mentors from local universities to guide low-income high school students through the process of applying to, enrolling in and paying for four-year colleges and universities. We are a national organization with chapters across the country.

Program: Strive Day

A field trip to the future.

We realize that Strive for College can’t reach every student who needs help on the road to college. But the community can. That’s why Strive developed Strive Day, a one-day conference on college applications and financial aid for low-income high school juniors, powered by undergraduate mentors at the local Strive chapter and by Strive’s comprehensive curriculum.

Once every spring, high school juniors come to the campus of a local college or university for a day packed with events - from a guest speaker to a presentation on financial aid to small group work with college mentors on building a college list.

Strive Day includes:

Guest speaker
Presentation on the college application
Presentation on financial aid options
Lunch with college students
Small group session on building your college list
Small group “Admissions Officer” game
Tour of the college
Admissions Officer panel with area colleges

Strive Day is not an assembly: it is interactive, focused on and powered by students, with an emphasis on one-on-one and small group interactions.

The goal: every student leaves informed about and prepared for the application process, and excited and motivated for college and what lies beyond. We aim to have students bring that motivation back to their schools and their friends, helping to build a community in which every qualified student can reach college.
