"There is a different spirit in this school about setting goals and wanting to go to college. There is no question in my mind that Strive for College has made a difference. It has been almost miraculous."
-Charles Brown, Superintendent, Wellston School District, Wellston, MO
In 2007, just 1 of the 30 seniors graduating from Eskridge High School in Wellston, Missouri attended college. That year Strive for College partnered with Eskridge High School and began working with the juniors, and after completing the program in 2008, 24 of 27 graduating seniors were accepted to four-year colleges and universities, and more than half received financial aid and scholarships.
In 2009, 100% of Strive's 54 students from Strive for College’s three chapters applied to four-year colleges, and more than doubled the four-year college-going rate of the students we served.
Strive for College is working to improve and replicate the success of our pilot models at colleges and universities across the country. In 2010, Strive built and supported Chapters on 10 campuses across the country, providing mentoring to 146 students. In 2011, Strive grew to a total of 15 Chapters, doubling the mentor base and the number of students served, while further increasing the four-year college-going rate of students served.
For further Chapter expansion, Strive is implementing a regional cluster model. If you are interested in helping bring Strive to your city or region, please [contact us] for information.
